ABOUT ABOUT

Art of Elan is thrilled to partner once again with Lux Art Institute to combine music and art in a unique experience that activates the outdoor gardens of the Education Pavilion with music, dance and the energy of a small, in-person audience.

This evocative program is inspired by Lux artist-in-residence Baseera Khan, who identifies as a queer femme Muslim American. Guests will have access to their exhibition of works which employs fashion, photography, textiles, and music to explore how assimilation becomes part of the concealment of identity. Those interested in viewing the exhibition should plan to arrive around 5:30pm in order to be admitted to the main gallery in small groups that will be staggered throughout the hour.

The concert program, which begins at 7pm in the outdoor gardens of the Education Pavilion, features the colorful folk music of Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz and Turkish composer Erberk Eryilmaz, as well as the world premiere of an Art of Elan commissioned work by New York composer LJOVA (Lev Zhurbin), written during the pandemic for Artistic Director Kate Hatmaker and cellist Alex Greenbaum. The program closes with a special collaboration with dancers from DISCO RIOT, performing alongside violinist Kate Hatmaker to bring to life the haunting melodies of Jessie Montgomery's "Rhapsody No. 1 for solo violin."

Covid Protocols for the Concert:

  • Audience is limited to 50 people who will be socially distanced throughout the outdoor performance area
  • All audience members, staff, musicians and dancers will be masked at all times
  • All attendees will undergo a temperature check upon arrival
  • Hand sanitizer will be available upon entry
  • Seating will be designated based on household groups
  • There will be no congregation inside the Education Pavilion building
